What is Chair Yoga? It's literally sitting in a chair and doing your yoga practice. For some postures we may stand and use the chair as a prop to improve stability and build leg strength. These classes are structured seated chair yoga sequences. Come and have a try.
Chair Yoga Is Great For Seniors though most people are challenged by this class
There’s no doubt that physical activity is good for people no matter what their age, but age can bring restrictions and limitations on what forms of exercise can be done, such as walking, tennis, golf, gym work and lifting weights etc.
An article in On agingcare.com, Nathan Wei, MD, a rheumatologist with over 30 years experience says there are three key components to a good work out for a senior: low impact cardio, resistance training and stretching. He says that yoga has the potential to cover all three of these bases.
"Confidence Builder: after teaching chair yoga to seniors, I have noticed most seniors have an improved sense of body awareness which translates into increased confidence in their ability, balance and strength. For instance, on a seated forward bend, most people would only partially be able to bend forward, but after several weeks and months their able to bend lower down until in some circumstances they are able to bend all the way down and even touch the ground or toes from a chair. But some people will not be able to bend to that advance level and form of every pose." - Keith
